Collaborators: LIVE BROADCAST from London’s National Theatre
Our next LIVE BROADCAST, is a new play by John Hodge (screenwriter of Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, The Beach). Collaborators takes place in the Moscow of 1938, a dangerous place to have a sense of humour; even more so a sense of freedom. Playwright Mikhail Bulgakov, living among dissidents, stalked by secret police, has both. Then he is offered a poisoned chalice: a commission to write a play about Stalin to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. Inspired by historical fact, the play centres on an imaginary encounter between Bulgakov and Joseph Stalin, a surreal journey into the fevered imagination of the writer as he loses himself in a macabre and disturbingly funny relationship with the omnipotent subject of his drama.
Alex Jennings (The Habit of Art) will play Bulgakov and Simon Russell Beale (London Assurance) will play Stalin. Nicholas Hytner directs.
Collaborators is broadcast on 1 December 2011 at 7.45 p.m at Munich’s “CINEMA” Filmtheater, Nymphenburger Straße 31, 80335 München. Online reservations are being taken.

The play is transmitted by satellite LIVE from London's National Theatre in High Definition as part of our third National Theatre Live season.
