Travelling Light: LIVE BROADCAST from London’s National Theatre

Our next LIVE BROADCAST, is a funny and fascinating tribute to those immigrants who became the major players in Hollywood’s golden age.

In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father’s cinematograph. Bankrolled by Jacob, the ebullient local timber merchant, and inspired by Anna, the girl sent to help him make moving pictures of their village, he stumbles on a revolutionary way of story-telling. Forty years on, Motl – now a famed American film director – looks back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.

Nicholas Hytner directs this new play by Nicholas Wright. It stars Antony Sher, whose screen credits include Disraeli in Mrs Brown, Hitler in Churchill: The Hollywood Years. His many stage appearances include PRIMO, Broken Glass, An Enemy of the People and the title role in Kean; leading roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company include Iago, Prospero, Macbeth, Cyrano de Bergerac, Shylock and Richard III for which he won two awards; NT appearances include Stanley (Olivier Award for Best Actor), Titus Andronicus and Uncle Vanya.

Travelling Light is broadcast on 9 February 2012 at 7.45 p.m at Munich’s “CINEMA” Filmtheater, Nymphenburger Straße 31, 80335 München. Online reservations are being taken.
