The Lab: Failed Epic
In this epically ambitious multimedia experiment in binge storytelling, an international ensemble of performers deconstruct a problematic American novel in a contemporary news media context. Using direct quotations from the novel, apocalyptic headlines from the beginning of the twentieth century are reported in real-time, only to be interrupted with live interviews, pre-recorded human interest pieces, on-location reporting, talking-head analysis, and other layers of media within media. As the overabundance of fictional and historical narratives start to accumulate, we begin to see a dystopian portrait of the present and how we got here.
THE LAB presentation will feature part one of fifteen, in this never-to-be completed series of performances.
THE LAB accepts submissions of new plays and performance pieces year-round. The only formal requirements are that the work is primarily in English, the submitting artist is based in Berlin and that it has not previously been presented in public.
