Es ist ein Beginn, der so berühmt ist wie der von Beethovens »Fünfter«, aber dabei noch deutlich klangmächtiger im Raum steht: »Also sprach Zarathustra« hat nicht umsonst auch als Filmmusik Karriere gemacht. Für den Strauss-Blockbuster gibt es ein Wiederhören mit Ex-hr-Pultchef Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Der in Kolumbien geborene Wiener stellt Strauss’ so auftrumpfende Sinfonische Dichtung in einen spannenden Kontext: Er kombiniert sie mit zwei eindrucksvoll-introvertierten Werken für Chor und Orchester von Johannes Brahms, die das Verhältnis zwischen Göttern und Menschen zum Thema haben – dem Strauss’schen »Zarathustra« inhaltlich also ganz nahe. Einen Gegenpol setzt das Cellokonzert von Mieczysław Weinberg, dessen 100. Geburtstag im Jahr 2019 dafür gesorgt hat, dass dieser so genialische polnische Komponist inzwischen ein wenig mehr im öffentlichen Bewusstsein verankert ist. Und das absolut verdient, ist sein 1948 entstandenes Konzertwerk doch wunderbar lyrisch, fein melancholisch, vor allem aber durchweg geistreich und voller Esprit.

It is an opening that is as famous as that of Beethoven´s »Fifth«, but at the same time has a much more powerful sound: »Also sprach Zarathustra« has not for nothing also made a career as film music. For the Strauss blockbuster, there is a reunion with ex-hr conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The Columbian-born Viennese places Strauss´s soaring symphonic poem in an exciting context: he combines it with two impressively introverted works for chorus and orchestra by Johannes Brahms, which have as their theme the relationship between gods and humans – in terms of content, therefore, very close to Strauss´s »Zarathustra«. The Cello Concerto by Mieczysław Weinberg, whose 100th birthday in 2019 has ensured that this brilliant Polish composer is now a little more firmly anchored in the public consciousness, provides a counterpoint. And this appreciation is absolutely deserved, as his concert work, composed in 1948, is wonderfully lyrical, delicately melancholic, but above all consistently witty and full of esprit.
