Antike Mythologie, spirituell inspirierter Tanz und Shakespear´sche Fantasie-Welten. Das ist der Stoff, aus dem dieses Forum N seine Spannung und Faszination bezieht und mit dem der britische Dirigent Duncan Ward zugleich eine Lanze bricht für das anglo-amerikanische Musikschaffen des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts. In »Medea´s Dance of Vengeance« kondensiert der Amerikaner Samuel Barber eine für die Tänzerin Martha Graham komponierte Ballettmusik zu einem kompakten Konzertstück über die zentrale mythologische Figur, während sein Landsmann Geoffrey Gordon sich religiöser Assoziationen für das tänzerische Wechselspiel eines neuen Konzerts für Oboe und Orchester bedient. In »Fred & Ginger« lässt sich der Brite Gary Carpenter von zwei Tanz-Heroen des frühen amerikanischen Kinos zu einer originellen Musik mit abstraktem Grundkonzept anregen, dessen Material New Yorker Songwritern der 1930er Jahre ebenso vertraut gewesen wäre wie frühen Schönbergianern. Und der Grand Segnieur der britischen Moderne Michael Tippett bereichert das Konzert mit den »Ritual Dances« aus seiner Oper »The Midsummer Marriage« um weitere Tanz-Facetten.

Ancient mythology, spiritually inspired virtuosity and Shakespearean fantasy worlds. This is the material from which this Forum N draws its tension and fascination, and with which the British conductor Duncan Ward at the same time takes up the cudgels for Anglo-American music-making of the 20th and 21st centuries. In »Medea´s Dance of Vengeance,« the American Samuel Barber condenses a ballet score composed for the dancer Martha Graham into a compact concert piece about the central mythological figure of the story, while his compatriot Geoffrey Gordon makes use of religious associations for the dance-like interplay of a new concerto for oboe and orchestra. In »Fred & Ginger« the Briton Gary Carpenter takes his inspiration from two dance heroes of early American cinema for an original music with an abstract basic concept, the material of which would have been just as familiar to New York songwriters of the 1930s as to early Schoenbergians. And the Grand Segnieur of British modernism Michael Tippett enriches the concert with further dance facets with the »Ritual Dances« from his opera »The Midsummer Marriage«.
