WortWelten: Born in the Bronx: Hip Hop - the history of an urban culture
The roots of Hip-Hop lie in the Bronx of the 1970s, where it gave expression to the impulsive and new sound of the local underground culture. Published for the first time in German, ”Born in the Bronx” includes unpublished images by Hip-Hop’s first photographer, Joe Conzo. This historical snapshot of a local, performance-based culture is the springboard for the conversation. Conzo reports on the social and creative energy of early Hip-Hop in the Bronx. The architect and urban planner Omar Akbar takes an urban look at this unjustly stigmatized burrough.
