A Zimbabwean Chronicle – Film & Reading with Tsitsi Dangarembga

An internationally acclaimed writer, film director and activist, Tsitsi Dangarembga will share her insightful chronicle of contemporary Zimbabwe from a decidedly feminist perspective. After screening her current short film “Sharing Day” (17 min.), a musical short film about Mainini, a rural woman whose burden of taking care of AIDS orphan Tabitha eventually gets shared in the community, Dangarembga will read selected passages from her book “A Family Portrait” from the Breaking the Silence project, 2014, ICAPA publishing as well as from her forthcoming and still unpublished novel “Chronicle of an Indomitable Daughter” (final in the Tambudzai Trilogy). Introducing and contextualizing each element, the evening will give seldom insights into aspects of the current situation in Zimbabwe from a writerly, not only a gender perspective.
