Nur ein Bruchteil der tagtäglich in Syrien verübten Kriegsverbrechen und Menschenrechtsverletzungen findet den Weg in die Öffentlichkeit. Das Syria Justice and Accountability Center (SJAC) arbeitet daran auch alle anderen zu dokumentieren. Mohammad Al Abdallah wird über diese wichtige Arbeit berichten. Wie wertvoll sind die vom SJAC gesammelten Informationen für mögliche Gerichtsprozesse? Was ist unter dem Konzept der Transitional Justice zu verstehen? Und welche Schritte sind notwendig, um in von Krieg und Gewalt geprägten Gesellschaften zu einer friedlichen Normalität zurückzufinden?

Only a small fraction of war crimes and human rights violations committed in Syria day-to-day is accessible to and noticed by the public. The Syria Justice and Accountability Center (SJAC) works on collecting and documenting all of the unnoticed ongoing violations, too. This evening Mohammad Al Abdallah of SJAC will report about their work. How valuable is the information collected by the SJAC for possible trials? Which international institutions and courts can already be called upon during an ongoing conflict? What is understood to be the concept of transitional justice? And which measures and steps are necessary for societies marked by war and violence on their way back to rule of law and a peaceful normality?

Mohammad Al Abdallah ist Executive Director des Syria Justice and Accountability Centre in Washington D.C., Aktivist, forscht zu Menschenrechten und Demokratie und hat für Human Rights Watch (Beirut) gearbeitet. Mit dem SJAC ist er in die politische Beratung unterschiedlichster Institutionen wie z.B. der UN eingebunden.

Mohammad Al Abdallah is the Executive Director of the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre in Washington D.C. and a human rights and democracy researcher and activist. He was imprisoned in Syria on two occasions for his human rights activism and previously worked for Human Rights Watch in Beirut. Via the SJAC he is involved in the political consultancy of different institutions such as the UN.
